Reliable colour, structure and low-maintenance beauty

  • Growth Habit: Dense and bushy, ‘Gulf Stream’ matures at about 3 feet high with a similar spread, featuring an attractive compact habit and bright colorful leaves.
  • Foliage: New growth emerges bronze-orange in spring, maturing to soft green, often retaining a red-orange flush, before turning attractive shades of red and gold in the fall.
  • Flowers: In spring, a profusion of tiny white flowers adorned with golden anthers appear in conical panicles at the tips of the branches. These are sometimes followed by abundant clusters of red berries which persist throughout fall and winter.

Growing Conditions & Care

  • Light: Thrives in full sun to partial shade. Best foliage and fruit production generally occur in full sun.
  • Soil: Prefers average, moist, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant once established.
  • Watering: Requires moderate watering during dry spells, especially in hot climates.
  • Maintenance: Low-maintenance; little to no pruning required. If shaping is desired, prune in late winter or early spring.
